Visible signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness and dark spots can start as early as in your 20s. It’s never too early to start incorporating anti-aging ingredients into your daily skincare routine to keep that youthful glow well into your later adult years. With thousands of options available for moisturizers, serums, and creams it can be overwhelming. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s our guide of 6 beginner-friendly anti-aging skincare tips.

#1: SPF is your new best friend

UVA and UVB are one of the biggest contributors to premature signs of aging across all skin types. The best way to protect your skin is through daily application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher (check out our last blog post for the full inside scoop on the importance of sunscreen). This will keep your skin protected from potential sun damage and reduce the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. We recommend EltaMD’s UV Daily for a lightweight and oil-free option and with a coverage of SPF 46.

#2: Moisturizer is a must

Along with broad spectrum SPF protection, moisturizer is an absolute must in your daily skincare routine. Simultaneous use of both products will make a noticeable difference in your skin’s appearance as you get older. We recommend using an anti-aging moisturizer, like Vivier’s Daily Age Defying Moisturizer, in your routine. Its hypoallergenic formula makes it ideal for all skin types, while its key ingredients replenish and protect your skin’s moisture barrier.

#3: Say hello to retinols

A staple ingredient to incorporate into your anti-aging skincare regimen is a retinol. Retinols have proven to smooth out existing fine lines and wrinkles and brighten dull skin. Retinol is an extremely potent ingredient, so it’s suggested to gradually introduce retinol into your routine to allow your skin to get used to it and avoid irritation. We recommend the ZO Skin Health Daily Power Defense serum. Its powerful combination of retinol, antioxidants, and DNA-repairing enzymes work to prevent and reverse signs of aging.

#4: Introduce eye creams into your routine

With the skin around your eyes being thinner than other areas of the face, it’s more prone to premature signs of aging. Daily application of an eye cream can help avoid that. We recommend Neoclutis’ Lumiere Eye Cream. Its restorative formula uses growth factors to target the under eye area and reduces the appearance of fine lines, crow’s feet, puffiness, and under-eye darkness.

#5: Serums rich in antioxidants

Another main contributor to premature aging is free radical damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules produced from outside sources such as UV rays, pollution, and smoke. The molecules can latch onto the skin and damage skin cells resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. To protect your skin from free radicals, use serums rich in antioxidants, such as SkinMedica's TNS Recovery Complex. Its ingredient list consists of amino acids, antioxidants, and growth factors that will protect your skin from free radical damage and premature aging.

#6: Maintaining Healthy Habits

In addition to a well rounded daily skincare routine, keeping up healthy habits in general is key to protect your skin from early signs of aging. Maintaining a balanced diet, drinking lots of water, avoiding sun exposure, and a solid sleep schedule will help to keep your skin healthy and glowing in the long term.
